British National Architecture Award

More than 60 buildings were competing to win the ‘ Reuse of a Georgian Building’ title. It is a special year as we celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Georgian era.

The winner was announced last week and to everyone’s delight it is the St George’s Chapel, Great Yarmouth. The chapel was previously a Theatre and without full renovation it would have been easily forgotten.  Thanks to the Georgian Group charity which was committed to the preservation of this unique building dating 1700- 1840, we can now see it in its full glory.

The cost of this transformation exceeded £4m and included the addition building of a modern pavilion and plaza. The award ceremony on Thursday night was presented by the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry KBE at Christie’s, London. This annual event is very important showing the glamour of Britain’s historic Georgian buildings.
