What about smart park bench that charges your phone?

Boston in cooperation with ‘Soofa’ brand decided to provide powered ‘smart’ benches that can charge your phone.

The energy comes from solar energy box that is clearly visible in the middle of every bench. It can generate up to 30 Watts that is enough to power 20 cell phones. The only problem is that you need to have your own USB cabel. A dozen of the charging stations are in Boston parks this summer as part of a city-wide pilot program to research people behaviour to high tech seating areas.

According to its creators Jutta Friedrichs, Sandra Richter and Nan Zhou believe that the bench will become a new social space that will provide data and city planners.

The project is already very successful and will be available in other cities soon.
