spaces that adapt to users’ needs at the flick of a switch.
A 21 studio has found a way to design a beautiful coffee shop in Vietnam by using scrap wood.
The timber was sourced in a range of shapes and sizes. Smaller pieces were used as louvers, whereas larger ones were used for the main structure section of the building. All elements were connected with each other by using traditional mortise and tenon techniques.
The curved thatched roof structure extends from the passing street, then descends towards the riverbank. The internal space is organised around a central courtyard. The smart design allows the communal area to be used as a spatial generator and climatic modifier allowing ventilation and solar gain.
