The grade II listed 40 room Eccleston Square Hotel opened in Spring 2011 after a £6.5m refurbishment which transformed the original interior with high tech features and beautiful modern design.
Eccleston Square Hotel is the latest, hi-tech, luxury, boutique design hotel in the heart of Central London. Historical on the outside yet timeless on the inside, Eccleston Square Hotel is an elegant fusion of old meets new.

Challenge

Architecture and design firm Woods Bagot were tasked with transforming the buildings on Eccleston Square into a luxury boutique hotel with “the most advanced in-room technology to be found in the capital”. The state of the art hotel was designed by Woods Bagot to facilitate director Olivia Byrne’s vision of uncompromising luxury and technology. One of the most significant design challenges was to maximise space within each room and create a bright open interior with the design brief centering on creating bright open spaces filled with plenty of light.

Solution

LC SmartGlass was used to create a glass wall partition separating bedroom and bathroom in each room. Switchable SmartGlass was the ideal solution to create a bright open space as it not only lets more light into the bathroom but also gives the impression of increased space throughout the entire room.

LC SmartGlass combines the functionality of an opaque wall with the style and lighting of clear glass. With glass being inherently thin, hotel designers are turning ever more toward it to save space and inject style. This clever use of glass ties in with the prevailing trend of hotels pursuing clean, minimalist styles in room design.

LC SmartGlass is a class A rated safety glass conforming to BS EN 12600 and is rated to IP X7 BS EN 60529 making it suitable for use in wet environments such as shower enclosures.

Result

Eccleston Square Hotel recently won the “In-Room Technology Innovation of the Year 2011” at the European Hospitality Awards and guests continue to write about the smart glass bathroom walls on travel review website TripAdvisor.

LC SmartGlass technology is allowing guests to have more input in the setup of the bathroom, reflecting their personal preferences thus making the bathroom a key feature of the guest experience.  SmartGlass International is delighted to be part of this exciting new project with LC SmartGlass leading the way in hotel bathroom interiors worldwide.
