Top Gear Live is the live arena show of the award winning TV program Top Gear.
Ever since it made its live debut on the World Stage in 2008 Top Gear Live has been seen by over 1,000,000 fans and is continuing to push the boundaries of car theatre.
“This show is like nothing we have done before. It will have some very very special, special effects,” Jeremy Clarkson.
For the 2010 show, Top Gear producers wanted to create the ultimate car to star in the finale of the live show. After much debate regarding model, materials, specifications etc. they decided on an almost impossible concept.
“A car will come out and become invisible” Richard Hammond.
LC SmartGlass was used to create the body of the car which would switch from clear to opaque simultaneously during the show to give the effect of an “invisible car”.
A total of 29 LC SmartGlass panels were used to make up the body of the car. The famous “Stig” was in the drivers seat of this state of the art vehicle and performed a series of stunts in the car all the time as the glass was switching state.
This scene was the finale of the live show and lasted for approximately 6 minutes with the glass car stealing the stage.
