Project Story

A new exhibition centre in the popular tourist area of Nordfyn, Denmark has found a way to provide tourists with a modern and interactive learning experience using Smartglass technology.

The exhibit, a collaboration between Aage V. Jensen Nature Foundation and Naturplan, is located at Gyldensteen Strand on the northern part of the island Funen, near Bogense, Denmark. The display offers tourists insight into the environmental and climatic effects of the restoration of a former reclaimed, drained and cultivated coastal lagoon, and shows how creating a new fresh water lake could have positive effects on the biodiversity of the area.

To help present this information in a creative and stimulating way, Smartglass provided over 10 square metres of circular privacy smart glass panels. Utilising electrical currents, the panels instantly switch from opaque to clear at the press of a button, revealing pictures and information about the effects of restoring this important marine area.

The multifunctionality of these smart glass panels offers tourists a different type of learning experience, allowing them to walk through the display, interact with each panel, and teach themselves about the local wildlife and biodiversity.
