A private resident in Newcastle Upon Tyne recently employed privacy smart glass technology to increase the style and functionality of a unique living space. This modern, loft-style residence boasts an airy aesthetic, with a double-height ceiling and balcony leading to a spacious bedroom from the ground floor.

However, the desirable aspects of this design element – such as increased natural light and an open-plan feel – present privacy issues for the bedroom. Because of the window’s non-traditional shape and location, curtains and blinds for privacy were out of the question, so the resident decided to get creative by utilising privacy smart glass to solve this issue.

10 m² of shaped privacy smart glass was installed in place of the original window, providing on-demand privacy without compromising on style, light, or aesthetic. Privacy smart glass uses electrical currents to activate the unique smart glass properties. The transformation can be triggered via a range of wall switches, remote controls, movement sensors or timers, tailored to each user’s individual needs. Numerous variations of privacy switchable glass are available, including colour tinted, fire rated, double glazed, and curved.
